To many pilots worldwide, the Turbo 310R is the ultimate light twin. It offers great visibility, six seats – all facing large baggage capacity – with much of that capacity outside the Cabin – excellent range and most of all – it’s fast.
Jerry Temple Aviation (JTA) sold this T310R to it’s current Owner in 10/200. He previously owned an exceptionally clean 421B. The Owner tells JTA this T310R looks even better than the 421B. That will be impressive.
JTA has now agreed to represent the aircraft. A new Annual is due to be completed in 11/07. A Buyer may elect, after careful review, to accept the new Annual as a pre-purchase inspection and thus will save approximately $2500 - $3500 for an inspection and positioning costs.
The Cessna POH claims a top speed of 237 KTS and a cruise speed of 223 KTS. More realistic speeds are:
Below 10,000 feet – 185-190 KTS
Above 10,000 feet – 190-210 KTS
Most T310R owners will Flight Plan at 190 KTS. Fuel consumption will be approximately 34 gph. With this ‘81 T310R’s 183 gallon fuel system, there are 5.7 hours to fuel exhaustion. At 190 KTAS – range equals 1086 NM (no winds).
The current Vref Price Guide’s base 1981 T310R has 4160 airframe hours. This aircraft has but approximately 2488 airframe hours creating a credit of 1672 hours. When normally evaluating/appraising aircraft, this creates a credit of $10,032. Understanding the “value” of this low time, or credit, is the sound logic that this low time equals vastly fewer cycles – flights, take-offs/landings, operation of systems, components, etc. In addition, the fact that the aircraft has had but four private party – personal use – owners means the number of pilots who have flown the aircraft is a minimum. Every item on an airplane can be changed except the airframe time. It remains the primary item for categorizing aircraft.
The aircraft’s Spec List is loaded with reliable King, Garmin, Avidyne, Insight and Shadin equipment. Many turbo-props and light jets are not as well equipped.
Weather Avoidance is provided by Satellite Weather Uplink, which is displayed on the Avidyne EX500 Multi-function Display along with the veteran Bendix RDR160 Radar. The display on the MFD is in Color. The Insight Strikefinder provides Lightning Advisories. These three features provide an excellent weather picture.
The aircraft is certified for flight into Known Icing, providing many operators with the legal comfort of departing into likely icing conditions. The Known Ice Kit consists of Inner and Outer Wing Boots, Horizontal Stabilizer and Vertical Fin Boot, Heated Propellers, and Electric Heat Plate for the Pilot’s Windshield, 100 AMP Alternators, Heated Pitot, Stall, Static and Fuel Vents. In addition, several components, such as vacuum pumps are heavy duty. In addition, the 35,000 BTU Heater/Defroster is a superb anti-icing feature.
Cabin heating is provided on frigid days, and at altitude, by the heater with the electric Keith (JB) Air Conditioner providing cooling on those blistering days.
The aircraft has two factory Remanufactured Continental TSIO520-BB Engines rated at 285 HP. TBO is 1400 hours.
The Shadin Digi-Flow Fuel Computer and the Insight 1200 Engine Analyzer make precision Engine Management simple. No cylinder needs run too hot. Shock cooling is history.
Precision instrument flight is enhanced by the reliable King KFC200 Autopilot and FLT Director with an easy to interpret Single-Cue, plus the situational awareness provided by the G530 and EX500.
In the event of total vacuum failure, the electrically powered Jet stand by Mini Electric Attitude Indicator provides an emergency attitude gyro for descent.
Cosmetics are excellent – new Interior in 2007. All Logbooks are in order. Only four owners since new.
The T310R is an easy aircraft to transition into. Regardless, if the Buyer is an experienced twin Cessna pilot, retiring airline Captain or has just acquired a new Multi-Engine rating, and perhaps may also be a relatively low time pilot, the T310R can easily be mastered. A proper check out is required. Insurance requirements vary. Check with our insurance agent. Also, 200-300 hours in a T310R provides a new twin pilot with an excellent foundation for transitioning into a pressurized twin Cessna or Turbo Prop.
Many of JTA’s customers are first time twin Buyers. Often the Buyer may not yet be Multi-Engine rated, or as mentioned above, will have a fresh M/E rating, and is therefore not insurance qualified to yet fly the aircraft.
JTA offers its highly respected and very popular Acquisition Support for Buyers. JTA’s Acquisition Support can be structured to include the administration of the purchase/sale, conduct the evaluation flight, supervision/management of the pre-purchase inspection and delivery support.
All piloting by a new Owner on JTA delivery flights may be logged as Pilot-In-Command (Dual) towards an insurance requirement. Jerry Temple is an experienced CFII with extensive twin Cessna experience and annually conducts several twin Cessna delivery flights and other flight training.
The cost for optional JTA Acquisition Support, to include delivery and other flight training is on an individual basis and is separate for the aircraft purchase transaction. Aircraft Specifications, Photos and a Technical Data Sheet may be seen at www.jtatwins.com.
Financing and Insurance
Due to the slow economy in general and the slow General Aviation marketplace the financing opportunities are excellent. The major aviation lenders, and especially those that are active in piston twin financing are offering excellent rates and terms. Call JTA to discuss and receive referrals.
Insurance
Obtaining insurance is a true crisis for General Aviation. Many underwriters have withdrawn from general aviation or from the piston marketplace.
The term "qualified Buyer" has changed. It no longer refers to financial qualification. It now can mean does the applicant have the hours and experience to qualify. It's often not about just receiving a high quoted premium. It's often about what seems like an excellent candidate to transition to a twin Cessna who is turned down for insurance. He's financially qualified and willing to undergo all required initial and recurrent training but is turned down.
By necessity, JTA has discussed the problem with knowledgeable insurance executives and has gained some valuable insight into helping pilots obtain insurance for this level of aircraft. For customers with possible problems obtaining insurance, who places an Offer to Purchase this T310R, or if necessary, another JTA represented aircraft; JTA will provide direct support in obtaining insurance.
Sales Procedures
A formal Offer To Purchase an airplane is submitted on JTA's standard Offer To Purchase form. The offer to purchase is not the final Purchase Agreement. The offer simply establishes the rules/procedures for the sale.
When an Offer is accepted, a five percent (5%) fully refundable deposit is placed in Escrow with Aero Space Reports of Oklahoma City. Pre-Purchase Inspection logistics/scheduling are then discussed. JTA makes every possible effort to satisfy the schedule/needs of the Buyer, Seller, Inspecting Shop and JTA. Upon satisfactory completion of the Buyer's Pre-Purchase Inspection, full funding/closing takes place. The Escrow Agent pays off any existing liens/loans guaranteeing the Purchaser clear title. Normally, Buyer and Seller split the Escrow Fee - typically $350 each.
In ninety percent (90%) of sales in which JTA is brokering the aircraft, the Purchaser requests/seeks JTA's well respected hands-on supervision of the entire acquisition process, including JTA's delivery support. Therefore, JTA does attend the Inspection and in fact orchestrates/directs the entire process. Note, however that a formal mechanical inspection is conducted by a maintenance facility at Purchaser's expense. JTA supports the Buyer by conducting the evaluation flight and then provides hands-on direction of the inspection process. Any major discrepancies are discussed and, in most cases, satisfactorily resolved between Buyer and Seller. It's JTA's mission to produce a pleased and satisfied Buyer and Seller. JTA then directs the funding/closing actions. Upon full payment of the aircraft and official change of ownership, JTA normally supports the new Owner with a dual instruction delivery flight to the Purchaser's home airport or to a training or maintenance facility. In certain cases, additional dual training is provided by JTA. JTA is reimbursed all normal travel expenses associated with travel to and during the pre-purchase inspection and associated with the delivery flight. Expenses are not marked up, just simple reimbursement i.e. airfare, hotel, taxi, rental car.
Additionally, JTA is pleased to provide Buyers with post-sales support/consulting for as long as they own the aircraft.
The Twin Cessna Flyers Owners Organization provides excellent Owner support. Contact Larry Ball at (260) 749-2520 for membership details. If you own any twin Cessna - you must join the TCF! The Group's Operation and Engine Seminars (Systems, Systems, Systems) is a superb course. See www.twincessna.org for more information.
So regardless if you are a low total time first time twin Buyer or a retiring airline pilot, JTA guides, supports and orchestrates the entire process. If owning a T310R perhaps the best personal light twin ever made, is now for you, then today contact Jerry Temple Aviation.
On Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, Jerry Temple flew this T310R from Petaluma, CA to Santa Maria, CA for a Pre-Purchase inspection by Coastal Valley Aviation. The Aircraft had just received its 2007 Annual Inspection. Though JTA had not seen this Aircraft in a few years, it had been represented as having a “high end” Paint and excellent 2007 Interior. The Panel obviously speaks for itself.
When seeing the Aircraft JTA was pleased that all representations were indeed fact. A very strong Exterior, but not brand-new, and not a just out of the paint shop new “10”.
Enroute to Santa Maria all Aircraft systems operated properly. The prospective Buyer, from Southern California owns a truly pristine 421C. In fact, at the recommendation of Jerry Temple, the 421C had been Annualed at Coastal Valley in August ’07 and JTA will market this Aircraft after a T310 is purchased. The Buyer flew his 421C to Santa Maria for JTA to see, evaluate and photograph. However, he was disappointed with the T310’s Exterior. He had the expectation of the Aircrafts being like new, a “10”. It is in Jerry Temple’s opinion, a well-respected twin Cessna expert and a “tough judge” to be a no brainer….”9”. The Aircraft had an expensive paint job and has always since been hangared, but it is not a ten. The Buyer was very pleased with the like-new Interior and Panel.
This was indeed a surprise for all parties. No one was more surprised than Jerry Temple. JTA wishes every JTA listing was even close to the exterior quality of this T310R. A comment about the Exterior by the shop the night before the Buyer saw the Aircraft may have planted a negative thought. The facts are being presented. The Pre-Purchase Inspection had few “Squawks”. This was a mild pre-buy.
To any prospective Buyer this pristine T310R has a new 11/07 Annual Inspection and in addition, a second review by another qualified shop. Plus, JTA has now flown this Aircraft from Petaluma to Santa Maria and then from Santa Maria to Oakland, CA. It is and excellent Aircraft and was a delight to fly.
The Photos and Narrated Video shot on 12/06 are posted on www.jtatwins.com.
All Logbooks are present. The Asking Price with this new Annual Inspection is $293,000. The Aircraft is now again hangared at Petaluma Airport and will not be flown. The Owner has accepted a new job in Reno and has many other business and personal demands.
A Buyer will have the option of accepting the recent (3 hours since signoff) excellent Annual Inspection, plus the just completed Pre-Purchase Inspection as a Buyer’s Pre-Purchase Inspection.
For the pilot, especially a new twin pilot, JTA can think of no better Aircraft to gain “Multi-Engine Posture” than this Aircraft. Two hundred to three hundred hours in this Turbo 310R will well prepare a pilot for a pressurized twin Cessna or a move to a turbo-prop or VLJ.
